What is Microneedling?

Microneedling (sometimes referred to as collagen induction therapy) is a minimally invasive treatment designed to boost collagen production, enhance skin renewal and deliver active ingredients deep into the skin.

Using fine, sterile needles, we create tiny punctures in the skin, stimulating its natural healing process. This increases collagen and elastin production naturally, helping to reduce fine lines, acne scars and uneven texture, leaving your skin looking smoother, firmer and more radiant.

At UltraSkin, we use the Dermapen 4, the most advanced FDA and CE certified pen on the market. Known for its speed and efficiency, the device creates 1,920 microchannels per second which helps create a comfortable yet highly effective treatment.

What does Microneedling treat?

We can customise treatments to address a range of skin concerns including:

✔ Ageing skin - fine lines, wrinkles, skin laxity and uneven skin tone

✔ Perimenopausal skin - dry, dull, hormonal breakouts and pigmentation

✔ Acne - stage 1 - 3 with congested and inflamed skin, as well as acne scarring

✔ Rosacea - sensitive, inflamed and irritated skin

The treatment will be tailored with the highest grade professional products containing scientifically-backed ingredients to achieve the best possible result for you.

What are the benefits of Microneedling?

✔ Most effective way to generate collagen which creates a firmer and more radiant look

✔ Smooths out fine lines and wrinkles and creates firmer, more radiant skin

✔ Creates deeper hydration and skin repair

✔ Improves skin appearance, texture and pore size

✔ Reduces acne scarring and pigmentation

✔ Improves redness and inflammation associated with rosacea

✔ Clears acne and inflammation (some clients require a combination of treatments to achieve optimal results)

What can I expect from a consultation?

We will discuss your treatment goals, along with your medical history, lifestyle, skin type and current skincare routine to agree the best way to achieve results for your specific concerns. It's always advisable to have a consultation two weeks before treatment so an appropriate plan can be made and there is enough time to prepare the skin pre-treatment. This is an important step to ensure we achieve the most effective results.

What should I avoid using in my skincare regime before Microneedling?

If dermaplaning, do this at least 24 hours before the treatment. Avoid products with active ingredients such as AHA/BHAs, retinol and Vitamin C for 3-5 days before treatment. Avoid any anti-inflammatory medicines such as ibuprofen for a few days before treatment.

What can I expect on the day of treatment?

We would recommend arriving with minimal or no makeup. We will recap on the treatment plan and take clinical photos for your file before starting the treatment. The treatment includes the following steps:

✔ Double cleanse

✔ Skin analysis

✔ Prepare the skin for microneedling

✔ Microneedling with tailored serum

✔ Sheet mask to cool down and hydrate the skin

✔ Ice globe massage to reduce inflammation

✔ Moisturise and protect with SPF

You may wish to add on a post treatment Uber Peel which is a powerful complement to the Dermapen Microneedling and helps to instantly brighten the skin.

To reduce post-procedure inflammation and redness, we would also recommend adding on an LED session which will significantly calm the skin and enhance results.

Uber Peel - add on for £10

Dermalux LED Light Therapy - add on for £25

Is Microneedling painful?

Depending on the depth of the needling, you may feel a slight tingling sensation, but most clients find the procedure comfortable or completely painless due to the advanced Dermapen 4 technology. As a rule, we do not offer numbing cream as this can constrict the blood vessels and impact the effectiveness of the treatment.

What can I expect immediately after Microneedling?

At a depth of 0.5mm, we would expect there to be redness and some pinpoint bleeding during the treatment (this is a positive outcome to get the collagen-production going). Your skin may feel warm and tight immediately after treatment, similar to a mild sunburn which typically settles within 24-48 hours.

What are the long-term benefits?

Over the following 3 to 6 weeks, your skin will continue to regenerate, revealing a fresher, more youthful glow with improved texture and tone lasting up to 6 months, depending on skin concern, lifestyle and skincare regime.

Most microneedling clients opt for a course of treatments to reach their desired goal and to reap the benefits of a more intensive boost of collagen. This requires annual maintenance treatments but the results can be ongoing if you stick with the journey.
